Assateague Island is divided into two parts. One side of the island is in Virginia and the side is part of Maryland. There are wild horses on both sides. But on the Maryland side the horses are allowed on the beach. In Virginia, fences limit where the horses can run free. These photos are from the Maryland side, which is close to Ocean City.
